We are delighted with the success to date of the Journal of Numerical Cognition (JNC) – our journal has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2015. The journal is the academic flagship of the Mathematics Cognition and Learning Society – which has wide geographical and discipline representation within its membership. The JNC aims to represent this diversity through the variety of outputs it publishes and the wide range of authors it supports. We are proud that we have continued to enable the publication of rigorous and transparent research focused on mathematical and numerical cognition over the past 10 years. Happy 10th birthday JNC!

The JNC publishes a range of outputs – such as theoretical contributions, book reviews, and empirical studies. We have also supported the commissioning of numerous special issues. We encourage outputs that reflect the differing approaches researchers take to address major questions in mathematical cognition research, of course including cognitive psychology methods, but also qualitative methodologies, advanced quantitative analyses, neuroscientific approaches and computational modelling.

Importantly, the JNC has a strong commitment to open research practices – including a growing number of registered reports, encouraging pre-registered studies, supporting the sharing of data sets and methodological details, as well as broad accessibility to research outputs. The JNC is a Platinum journal through our collaboration with PsychOpen GOLD – this ensures that outputs are free to publish for authors and free to access for readers. We believe our support of these practices ensures that our sub-discipline has an excellent reputation for rigour, reproducibility, and replication.

We have recently renewed the Editorial team for the JNC – our new team reflects the discipline and geographical diversity of researchers within the field of mathematical cognition. Professor Victoria Simms has been appointed as Editor in Chief. In addition, the following Associate Editors have also joined the Editorial Board, with section responsibility:<?linebreak?>

The team at the JNC would like to sincerely thank all previous members of the Editorial Board for their commitment and hard-work – Tali Leibovich-Raveh, Geetha Ramani, Andreas Obersteiner, Lieven Verschaffel, Joonkoo Park, and Sara Hart. Special thanks are extended to André Knops who has successfully led the team as Editor in Chief since 2021 – steering the team through decision making and ensuring that the standards of the journal have been promoted and recognised.

Of course, no journal could function without the commitment and dedication of reviewers. We are particularly fortunate to have a strong community of reviewers who invest so much of their time and efforts in providing constructive and supportive feedback to authors – we are truly grateful to all of our reviewers – we really couldn’t sustain the journal without you!

We look forward to this new chapter in the JNC – we are a successful outlet for excellent research- and we hope to continue to build on this in our future.
